Video Tribute, 'To Elvis With Love : Writings on the Wall', Features Fans' Messages
Have you ever visited Graceland and written a message on the fieldstone wall that surrounds the property?
This phenomenon started while Elvis was still alive, and the grounds keepers worked diligently to keep the wall clean. After Elvis died, the volume of fan graffiti proved overwhelming, and the estate decided to leave the wall alone. Only crude messages were pressure-washed off. The rest would last a year or so until exposure to sun and rain faded them, giving newer visitors a chance to add their thoughts.
'To Elvis With Love: Writings on the Wall' is a video to honor our fans who continue to visit each year. Elvis fans can now check out the new video montage (below) featuring several of the messages fans have left for Elvis on the wall outside of Graceland in Memphis, TN. In April of 1957 after Elvis purchased the Graceland property and was filming 'Jailhouse Rock', the famous Graceland wall was installed with Alabama field stone and was one of the first additions to the grounds along with the famous iron gates. The wall outside of Graceland has given fans a sense of warmth, welcome and camaraderie. Over the years, fans have turned the wall into a special place where they write personal messages to Elvis. The Graceland wall has been signed by millions of people, including celebrities, politicians and fans from around the world.
